Pipette vs Aveeno vs BabyGanics: Pipette Baby Products Review for Adults with Eczema and Psoriasis

My First Pipette Order

All of this high quality skincare for $41 delivered to my home!

Pipette baby balm and baby products for adults with eczema and psoriasis? Is that even a thing? Well, maybe… maybe not. I do know parents use their baby’s products often as they’re simply around and parents usually buy the best products they can when they can for their little ones. I, however, am not a parent. I’ve been on the baby product bandwagon for a while though.

Pipette vs Aveeno

My Journey to Using Baby Products, as An Adult

Growing up, my Mom was always OBSESSED with Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Magic lotion. It was the only lotion she ever used. She’ll now use other lotions with higher end ingredients, but throughout all of my childhood, that’s all my mother used as her lotion. I’ve asked her why before, and she said it moisturized well, wasn’t greasy, and it smelled great. I’ll also admit, that smell is pretty fantastic.

I started to think more about why someone would continue to use baby products on themselves long after their children have grown. I believe there are a couple more reasons. First, nostalgia. Smell brings us back to when we experienced different times, and how lovely of a moment to remember rubbing lotion on tiny baby feet. I can imagine the experience with just closing my eyes. Baby Magic lotion brings me back to the smells of my Mom, but I’m sure it brings her back to memories of my brother and me as babies.

The second reason… I think we know deep down that companies must care a little more about the ingredients that go into baby products. The risk is so much higher, and babies are so delicate. Even if it hasn’t always been the case, our perception as consumers is that maybe the quality is better in baby lotion than adult lotion. Johnson & Johnson was also brilliant in the marketing of the Tear-Free Shampoo back in the day. It was for babies, but adults did occasionally use it too.

I think the first company to really normalize the duplicit world of baby and adult combo products was The Honest Company with their Lotions, Balms, and Shampoo/Body Wash. I do rotate The Honest Company Lotion into the mix, as it’s a great lotion for the price and quality. Although less of a baby product, The Honest Company Conditioner is one of the best, even though the Shampoo is only ok. My opinion… we need to get out of this idea that we always need to buy Shampoo and Conditioner in the same brand. Not sure why we’re so committed to that!

Pipette vs Aveeno

Ok, back to the topic… Baby to adult products… The next leap I took was with Baby Sunscreen. Again, it has to be better quality, right? I’ve bought BabyGanics Sunscreen for around 7 years now, and I LOVE the protection I’ve gotten.

Let’s Get Real About Psoriasis & Eczema!

Now, let’s talk Eczema and Psoriasis… I’ve had eczema for a long time, as well as acne. I have true combination skin. Psoriasis, however, is new in the last few years. In fact, it took me a year to figure out that I had psoriasis. I kept treating psoriasis as if it was a fungal rash and finally a dermatologist told me it was psoriasis.

Then, the rash went away with a week of steroids. I didn’t have any problems for a couple years until I got the first Moderna covid vaccine. That triggered an immune response in my body. I’ve now had an ongoinging psoriasis rash on my stomach for 3 months. I have an appointment with the dermatologist in a week, but it can take a little time to get a specialist appointment with Kaiser sometimes.

The first time I had psoriasis, I tried the Aveeno Eczema Therapy Lotion, and it works great! Especially for the price point. The one thing that surprised me about it though is that this lotion seemed to help with the itching, but it didn’t have the moisture level I was looking for. This Aveeno Lotion is a tad thin and watery. Kinda between a lotion and a gel in color and consistency. I generally prefer a lotion.

FYI, Aveeno Eczema Therapy Lotion is another Johnson & Johnson product. This product does have ceramide in it. Ceramides are a class of fatty acids called lipids. They're naturally found in skin cells and make up about 50 percent of the outer layer of skin. Ceramides help maintain your skin's natural barrier to the environment and keep the skin hydrated. In addition to keeping your skin hydrated, ceramides can also help alleviate eczema and psoriasis by repairing breaks in the skin. Aveeno Eczema Therapy Lotion does have the label of approval from the National Eczema Association. This lotion is steroid free and fragrance free, and contains oat to soothe.

I decided to go back to baby products and tried BabyGanics Eczema Care Skin Protectant Cream, to see if I could find a lotion with a tad more thickness. This BabyGanics Eczema Cream was so much better for that creamy coverage. It rubs on like an SPF 30 lotion. A little thick, and it takes a second to rub the white away, but it goes away and you’re left with a moist skin feeling. BabyGanics Eczema Therapy also is leaping bunny certified and it also has the label of approval from the National Eczema Association. This lotion is formulated without cortisone, steroids, parabens, phthalates or fragrance. It also contains Oat to soothe.

Pipette Quality & Environmental Commitment

Pipette is a company founded on values of sustainability, and clean ingredients… Not intended to just meet the requirements of the US and EU regulations, but to exceed the expectations by not allowing any products we know to be controversial at all. Seriously, I could rewrite the whole Our-Story page, but you should check it out yourself. Pipette’s quality of service to the environment and to users is astounding!

Pipette is owned by Amyris, an environmentally conscious biotechnology company with ambassadors and brand partnerships with celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Jonathan Van Ness. Pipette is also EWG verified, and is made in the USA with domestic and foreign ingredients. In short, the brand and jobs are in the US, but not all ingredients grow and can be sourced in the US. Funny enough, I live in South Berkeley and the headquarters is in Emeryville, 2 miles from my home! I’m always drawn to California companies. We just care about people and the environment. Not that companies in other locations don’t or can’t, but it’s in our culture and DNA over here in California.

Need I mention… Of course Pipette is leaping bunny certified too! Pipette also uses Oat to soothe skin, the same as the other two lotions reviewed above.

Use your FSA or HSA Funds on Pipette, Aveeno or BabyGanics!

If you’re purchasing a product with the National Eczema Association label (or another Eczema or Psoriasis org) then you can use your FSA funds! Please note, not all labeled products will have the label for design and aesthetic purposes. Pipette doesn’t have the label on the products, but it is approved. You can also check out my full list of the best FSA and HSA finds here.

My Surprise Favorite Pipette Product for Eczema & Psoriasis

I must add that my favorite product for my psoriasis has been the Baby Balm. Yes, it’s a typical balm in the sense that it’s oil based, but it’s been calming and providing a ton of moisture. I’ve been using this one before bed, and the Pipette Eczema Lotion during the day.

Pipette Uses Squalane… What’s Squalane?

One of the other things I love about Pipette is that they use an extra-pure, sugarcane-derived squalane that’s sustainable and made from sugar cane (cruelty free). Squalene (with an “e”) is a lipid produced naturally by your own skin cells. The amount of squalene your body produces declines with age, with peak production occurring in the teen years, and slowing down in your 20s or 30s. As a result, your skin becomes drier and rougher.

Squalene isn’t only natural in humans though. It can be harvested elsewhere, in olives, rice bran, and sugarcane. It’s also found in shark livers (def not cruelty free). When squalene is exposed to oxygen, it can deteriorate and spoil quickly. Before it can be used in skin care products, squalene must be hydrogenated into squalane (with an “a”), which is a stable form of the molecule. Pipette uses the sugarcane version of squalane (with an “a”).

Final Thoughts…

I hope families with babies and children found this article helpful. I also hope singles and those couples without children found it helpful too! The branding for Pipette baby products and other natural skincare products are often for the little ones, but the use isn’t limited to babies.

I recommend all products listed on this page, for different reasons. For the price, quality and commitment to the environment, you really can’t beat Pipette baby products for adults and babies BOTH with eczema and psoriasis.
