What Subscription Coffee Delivery Service is the Best?

We all miss that coffeehouse culture, but just because we’re spending more time at home doesn’t mean we need to sacrifice quality coffee. My husband and I met in Seattle and have lived in San Francisco and Berkeley for the last seven years, and I’ve traveled to over 50 countries. We love great coffee and so I’ve decided to try many different subscription coffee delivery options to review them.

All of these coffee subscription and coffee delivery services have been tried by either my husband or me throughout the last few years. I’ve also become an affiliate for the coffee subscription services that we continue to love and use.

Blue Bottle Coffee

In the San Francisco Bay Area, Blue Bottle Coffee is King. There are many reputable brands like Philz, Sightglass, Ritual, Verve, but Blue Bottle is considered the creme de la creme. What I really love about Blue Bottle Coffee’s Subscription is they’ve curated a beautiful package and welcome kit where you’ll receive 6 bags of coffee over 3 months (one every 2 weeks) and in your first package (FREEBIES OFFERED) you’ll receive a porcelain coffee dripper made in Japan valued at $25, a 90 pack of pour over filters at $15 value and a Blue Bottle Tote valued at $25. The whole kit retails for $185 and costs $119. There’s never been anyone I’ve ever met that’s ever been disappointed with a cup of Blue Bottle Coffee. Perhaps they don’t like paying $6 for a cup of pour over, but no one that has taste buds has ever complained about the quality. If you count all the gifts as a bonus, then it comes out to around $20 a bag. Blue Bottle is my favorite option for bang for your buck if you’re a true coffee connoisseur.

Trade Coffee

Trade Coffee is a subscription based coffee service with a variety of quality coffee roasters and sellers from the US. Beans come from around the world, but the roasters are from the United States from coffee shops and sellers that are wildly popular in their local regions. When you subscribe to receive coffee on a schedule, you’ll save 50% on your first bag. The shipping is always free. Through the registration process, you answer questions so Trade Coffee can come up with a taste profile and make coffee recommendations. Our first coffee recommendation from Trade Coffee was Huck from Huckleberry Roasters in Denver, Colorado. It was a medium roast with moderate acidity and it was a lovely coffee! Some reputable coffee roasters Trade Coffee sells are Verve, Sightglass, Irving Farm, Ritual, City of Saints, Atomic Coffee Roasters, Red Rooster, Portland Coffee Roasters, Sparrows, Oren’s, Stay Golden, Cafe Vita, Greater Goods, DOMA, GIMME!, Klatch, Madcap, Methodical Coffee, Broadsheet, Necessary Coffee, Revelator, Red Bay, etc… So many great coffee roaster brands! The average coffee bag costs between $17-$23 per bag.

Driftaway Coffee

Driftaway Coffee is just lovely. Perhaps my favorite thing about Driftaway though is their mission and how much they lean into sustainability and fair trade. The blog posts, articles and pictures around the mission, branding and accomplishments are on the front of the website at driftaway.coffee. They use eco-friendly packaging, have carbon neutral operations, and they keep all pricing public facing so farmers can have fair trade and visibility into coffee pricing. This coffee is spendy too, but there’s a price break if you purchase a 6-month membership in advance. They’ll send you your bags of coffee freshly roasted of course. It’s $22 a bag and $18.86 a bag when purchased with the 6-month pre-payment. The coffees are lovely and there are 4 options to choose from, both ground and whole bean.

KOA Coffee

Do you love Kona Coffee and Peaberry Coffee? One of my absolutely favourite coffees is KOA Coffee Peaberry Medium Roast from Kona, Hawaii….but… It’s so expensive at $88lb. Still quite spendy, but at less than half the price is a fantastic coffee from KOA called Private Reserve Medium Roast at $42lb. For 10% OFF your first order, use the promo code WELCOME10. There’s a reason people tote coffee back from Hawaii after a vacation. It’s just so lovely, but so dang spendy. If you can afford the splurge, you won’t regret it. Pro tip...If you ever go to Hawaii, go to Costco to buy your coffee to bring home. You can even ship a box back to yourself or check an additional box as luggage.

French Press Coffee

THE NEWBIES GUIDE TO

FRENCH PRESS COFFEE

Copper Cow Coffee

Copper Cow Coffee is truly unique in its design of the coffee product and business model. It's founded in California with Viatnamese influence and the coffee is a high quality pour over where the pour over is built-into the filter. So, you unfold, place over the lip of your cup, pour hot water over, take the pour-over filter off and throw away (or compost of course!). You can curate the package you order by how you take your coffee… cream and sugar etc. Another thing I LOVE is that the company is female owned and the leadership team listed online is almost all female. So cool! Unique, good quality, great design, for the busy person, and women owned and operated. I can get behind Copper Cow Coffee! Use the promo code MAKECOFFEE for 15% OFF your first order. A 5-pack is $15-$17 which is a little spendy though.

Phil & Sebastian

Given that I used to live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for a few years, I couldn’t leave our lovely neighbors to the North out of the coffee subscription review. After all, what’s better to warm up with in the cold weather than a hot cup of coffee? Phil & Sebastian does same day delivery for Calgary residents and they have free shipping for the whole US and Canada! Their coffee is direct trade. You gotta know your metric when ordering you US-ers, but to make it easy for you, their 340g bag is pretty much ¾ a pound and it’ll run you $36 for delivery to the US and $27 to Canada. I think that’s the conversion rate for the currency difference (which means it could fluctuate from this blog posting date). You can check out Phil & Sebastian at philsebastian.com

Four Sigmatic

I’m a huge Four Sigmatic fan when it comes to their protein powder and the adaptogens, and if you’re trying to get more adaptogens in your routine, you may want to explore their coffee. You can get your daily Lion’s Mane or probiotics in your morning cup. Four Sigmatic is a California based company with a strong female leadership with a mission of health and sustainability. They also really care about quality. I so happen to be an affiliate directly with them because I use their Adaptogen Mix every day! 12oz of coffee will run you $20 or $16 on subscription. Use the promo code THEBOSSYSAUCE for 10% OFF your order at us.foursigmatic.com!

Coffee Over Cardio

Are you more of a flavored coffee drinker? Coffee Over Cardio is your jam then. All coffees are arabica. They have fun flavors like Messy Bun, French Toast, Birthday Cake, Saturdaze, Doctor’s Orders, Summer Break, #Workflow, Morning Y’all, Bonjour, Nite Owl etc. Just so much color in their packaging and branding and the flavors pack a punch! They also sell K-Pods / K-Cups. I encourage people to purchase the reusable K-Pods (which Coffee Over Cardio also sells) as they’re an environmental disaster. Perhaps my only complaint is that they don’t sell whole bean coffee, but the flavors are just so dang fun! This woman owned and operated business is all about Coffee and, you got it, Cardio! The even host fitness routines and have Keto approved creamers. 12oz runs between $14.99 to $18.99 depending on the flavor. For my special Coffee Over Cardio affiliate discount, head to coffeeovercardio.com and enter the promo code 10THEBOSSYSAUCE for 10% OFF your order!

Think Coffee

I haven’t forgotten about you New Yorkers and your magical coffee roasters! Think Coffee has coffee shop locations in NYC in Williamsburg, SOHO, Tribeca, Gramercy, The Flatiron, Union Square, Bleecker, Meatpacking and a few other locations. Now you can have a taste of New York City in your morning cup of coffee with Think Coffee delivered to your home. Their coffee is single origin and they seem to care a lot about Social Impact. $15 to $17 a bag on subscription. I forgot the size and it doesn’t state online. You can visit Think Coffee and sign up for a subscription at thinkcoffee.com.

Equator Coffees

Since I’m from the San Francisco Bay Area, I have to support another Bay Area coffee raster, and Equator Coffees is fantastic! One thing I really love about Equator Coffees is that they’re giving back to our community with supporting displaced restaurant workers affected by COVID-19. You can receive 15% OFF your first subscription order with the promo code FIRST_15 at equatorcoffees.com. Their curated blend subscription runs $16 for 12oz. Not too bad!

Yes Plz

I love the concept of Yes Plz Coffee Roasters. It feels like their brand is the no-brand brand. The business model is around a completely different bean and roast delivered every week (or schedule you desire). Shipping is included and 12oz is $23 and 8.8oz is $17. I wondered if they got the coffee beans from roasters we know and love or if they’re doing the work themselves. I’m honestly unsure. Cool concept though! You can order coffee through Yes Plz at yesplz.coffee.

Peet’s Coffee

I live a couple miles away from the Peet’s Coffee Headquarters. I live in Berkeley, CA and their headquarters is in Emeryville. I know Peet’s is a larger corporation and once a company becomes larger, the brand can seem more corporate and less sexy over time, but my first whole bean coffee I ever bought in my adult life was a bag of Peet’s Coffee. For the main chains, they’re great. Also, if you’re in the South or the East Coast, perhaps you’ve never heard of Peet’s. I’m including them here because you’ll get the best bang for your buck with Peet’s. You can get a single origin beautifully roasted coffee subscription for $17 for 1lb or 2lbs for $32. You can also receive 30% OFF your first coffee subscription with the promo code NEWSUB30 at peets.com. Not to shabby!

Philz vs Blue Bottle. Copper Cow Coffee vs Starbucks. Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee vs Blue Bottle Coffee. Does Trade Coffee use good roasters?
